Use the eyedropper tool to quickly apply formatting to text and objects
and speed up your workflow in Adobe InDesign.
EYEDROPPER TOOL
Copy and apply formatting to text and shapes
Formatting shapes: Select the eyedropper tool, then option/alt-click on the original shape; this loads the formatting into the eyedropper. Now click on the shape you want to apply the format to.
Formatting text: Select the eyedropper tool then option/alt-click on the text format you want to copy. Hover over the text you want to apply the new formatting to, you’ll notice the eyedropper icon has a small ‘T’ next to it. Click and highlight the text to apply the new formatting.
COLOR THEME TOOL
Lift color swatches off of a photograph
To create a color pallet from a photograph you need to select the color theme tool: it lives in the same menu icon as the eyedropper tool. Click on the image whose colors you want to sample and the tool generates a color theme for you based on the image. You can add the color theme to your swatches by clicking the + icon.
